LaSalle College and the ALDO Group announce the launch of a new Footwear and Accessory Design specialization in the Fashion Design DEC program in August 2019.

“Shoe and accessory design is an important function in the Québec fashion industry. A specialized training program for designers, preparing them to integrate into the footwear industry, has never existed to this day.” underlined François Bousquet, director of the International School of Fashion, Art & Design at LaSalle College.

There is a glaring shortage of skilled labour at the moment, and the fashion and retail industries have certainly not been exempted from this trend. The ALDO Group is currently hiring 90 positions at its Montréal campus.

“The ALDO Group has decided to tackle this problem at the root by investing in the training and advancement of local talent. Today, we are announcing our collaboration with LaSalle College to train the designers of tomorrow. LaSalle College is the ideal partner for this collaboration, as it’s a founding member of LCI Education, an international network of higher education institutions including campuses located on five different continents” explained David Bensadoun, CEO of the ALDO Group.

In addition to announcing the creation of this concentration, the ALDO Group is also launching a shoe design contest that will result in several talented students winning a paid internship within the company’s product creation team.

“Montréal is a vibrant, dynamic, cosmopolitan and versatile city. Its potential is huge and it’s very important for us to invest in young local designers by helping them reach their full potential” added David Bensadoun.

This concentration is a part of the new DEC personalization option "A program in your own colors" allowing DEC students in Fashion Design and Fashion Marketing to customize their program according to their future professional aspirations.
